Found on 35

Recently I took in a whole bunch of rolls of 35mm, 120, and 220 film to get developed. Some was over a year old, in fact, some rolls spanned more than a year in themselves. Just thought I'd put up a few that struck me on my first glance through.

Know Your Meme

I am tired of people asking me "what's a meme?" Most of the time, they are referring to internet memes, and there is only one place to go to learn more than you'd ever want to know about that topic: Know Your Meme.
As for the few people that are wondering what a meme meme is, as in the postulated unit of cultural ideas transmitted through minds through imitable phenomena, you should check out Richard Dawkin's (famous anti-religion advocate) The Selfish Gene..... or just read the wiki page.

Too Much Christmas Spirit (Money + Time)

Some people just go too far when it comes to Christmas light. Can you imagine being the person who lives next to this guy? You'd probably just not even try.

Unique Types

If you are a designer or just interested in fonts, check out this project called Unique Types which is developing fonts inspired by children with disabilities supported by the AACD (Brazilian Association for the Welfare of the Handicapped Children). Right now it is still in stage 1, which is designers being called to create the fonts. Stage 2: advertisers use, stage 3: media coverage, stage 4: everyone uses it. I can't wait to see what they are going to be and since they are covered by Creative Commons I'll bet anyone can get them.

Wheels on the Bus

Question: Which way is this bus moving?

Can't tell right? Well, the answer (if you live in the US) is left and most children will get this right and tell you they know because they can't see the door, and thus it must be on the other side. To my adult brain, I saw the childish drawing as evidence that the drawing contained the classic SAT answer "not enough information" to draw an answer. Maybe, to kids, who draw like this all the time, they pass no judgement on the simple drawing and can see right through this simple brain teaser.

More trouble in security leaks as the CIA accidently makes public the badges of some of its top operatives.

TSA = Totally Stupid Administration

The TSA managed to post their entire screening manual online thinking that some code to "black out" sections would be good enough to keep people from seeing it..... really. Of course, people easily did get through the black sections and what was underneath were templates for federal IDs (see page 4-23) and statistics on the limitations of what airport x-ray machines could detect.

Alicia Sully: Films to Change the World

Alicia Sully is amazing, and the people she surrounds herself with are equally so. Watch her short film made in Africa about women and then at the bottom the film about touring the film from village to village to spread awareness.

13 Lines

Launching a dramatic expansion of government support for one of the most promising but most contentious fields of biomedical research, the National Institutes of Health on Wednesday authorized the first 13 lines of cells under the administration's policy and was poised to approve 20 more Friday.

I'm not sure if you know, but stem cell research, if I had a calling towards lobbying, would be top of my list. Yes, the amount of sci-fi books I have read fill my mind with terrible scenarios of ever improving humans approaching an organic singularity, but then I see a paralyzed rat get back to walking in only 8 weeks and think of all the suffering that could be avoided by using this research. It is the future of health and I'm extremely excited to see the US finally getting behind it.
