A modern Haiku
By Idaho Bob
He's Radioactive Boy
Left here all alone
His companions all have died
Atomic Sea Bass
Swimming in an empty sea
No fish left to eat
Two wanderers wandering
Together alone
Will their paths ever converge?
----
Radioactive Boy looks
He sees the seashore
Far across the barren land
A hungry creature
Atomic Sea Bass evolves
The land awaits him
Step by step, fin by fin move,
Towards a last hope,
Citizens of the destroyed world
----
Old memories of the sea
Once blue and calming
Now dark as the night above
Weeks of adapting
New lungs full of blackened sludge
It’s now or never
Emerging from the sea muck
The boy watches on
Atomic light illuminates him
----
Under a broken moon’s glow
On a broken shore
The last unbroken things halt
Despite his instincts
Atomic Sea Bass cries out
To the tall god-like figure
The Radioactive Boy
Sees the glowing god
Is this what took his world away?
----
Out of anger, out of fear
Death’s blow delivered
On god’s flesh he will now feed
The meat is acid
Is this god’s last punishment?
His stomach spills out
And on an empty stomach
He lies down
The last sun reddens the withered sky
